WERNIGERODE

Wernigerode - a colorful town in the Harz – it lies at the foot of the Brocken surrounded by the wonderful Harz landscapes. The place is full of sights and the colorful town center, with its impressive half-timbered houses, invites you to stroll and shop.

In the immediate vicinity of the Schlosspalais stands the smallest house in the town. It was built in 1792 in a building gap of only 2.95 m and is only 4.20 m high. In the past, up to 11 people lived in the small half-timbered building. It was inhabited until 1976 and is now a museum.

Through the narrow lanes you can reach the center of the town with its magnificent town hall directly on the market square. The magnificent timberwork edifice was built in 1420 and it is a must see to be admired by every visitor to the town. On the market square itself there are plenty of opportunities to eat or have a coffee and watch the hustle and bustle of the small but vibrant town.

The trail continues along Breite Straße along many noteworthy half-timbered houses, with their ornate details, ornaments and carvings. Worth mentioning are the Café Wien and the Krummelsche Haus, which really invite you to stop and enjoy the view. In Breite Straße there are many shops, cafes and restaurants.

At the end of Breite Straße the path leads along Lindenallee, up a steep hill. You now have the opportunity to stroll through the Lustgarten park. It was built in the 16th century and was rebuilt in the 18th century into a French Baroque garden and later transformed into an English park. So if you want to take a little stroll, you can take the opportunity to use this park at the foot of the castle. The park is located in the immediate vicinity of the Erbprinzenpalais or a 10-minute walk to the Schlosspalais along the historic city wall
