43rd Harz Mountain Run in Wernigerode

One of Germany’s most beautiful mountain races will take place again on October 9, 2021, after a forced break last year
After the Harz Mountain Run had to be completely canceled in 2020, the organizers spent a long time considering how this popular event for both young and old could still take place. A light version with fewer routes and several regulations and restrictions — this is how the 43rd Harz Mountain Run is planned to be held this year. Scheduled events include the Brocken Children’s Run, the 11 km race, and the Brocken Marathon. Clearly, a compromise. The Harz Mountain Run in Wernigerode is considered one of the most beautiful nature runs through the picturesque landscape of the Harz National Park. Since 1978, around 4,000 running enthusiasts and many visitors have come to Wernigerode on the second weekend of October. However, the Brocken Marathon is a race with very special demands. More than 1,000 meters of elevation gain make this marathon-distance event one of the toughest endurance races in Germany. Only very well-trained runners should take on this challenge. The summit of the Brocken has an alpine climate, and participants often also have to battle difficult weather conditions in Wernigerode — making it, in the truest sense of the word, a real challenge. Registration is still possible until September 30, 2021. Further information can be found here.
